PLAY AV

Now... I know I'm not the only one in the room. First and foremost, I started PLAY AV LLC because I am a musician that wanted to surround myself with other musicians as frequently as possible. Music was my first passion and my parents quickly noticed as I would play along to the neighborhood ice cream truck theme song on the piano at the age of 5. I was raised in a small town outside of Houston, TX that had a surprisingly poppin' live music scene. The music that struck and kept my interest in my teenage years was quite a bit angrier than "The Entertainer" to say the least. I was able to pickup a handful of instruments, mostly by ear and being a kinesthetic learner. After my high school band "The Rocketeer" had to split due to graduation and life changes, I figured the next best option to continue pursuing my passions would be to apply for a program that offered an education in studio recording, post production, and live sound design. The solution was a "hands on" 1 year program at MediaTech Institute in Austin, TX. After finishing and certifying, I wanted to submerse myself into the audio related workforce as quickly as possible. In 2015, one of my instructors offered a gig running sound at a church twice a week, which was a very supportive start. Nearly simultaneously I gained a significant contact in Lance Stacy, who reached out to my live sound instructor when needing help with SXSW. I quit my job in the food service industry the day I committed to Lance and I still work with him today. Needing full time employment at the time, I finally landed a job as a corporate A/V technician, working within many of the hotels in downtown Austin, TX. I was eventually promoted to "lead event technology specialist" and was invited to experience the ins and outs of that operation on a large scale. This included running audio/video/lighting/camera for corporate ballroom galas, large conferences, concerts, etc. and leading teams through the process. After multiple years, I was offered a design/sales position at a custom integrations company that specialized in high end residential and commercial automation systems. I was able to gain valuable experience in an entirely different side of the A/V realm in this position, and after years of building and maintaining a network within the community, I realized that I had an opportunity to start a business and incorporate my love for people with all of my knowledge and know how of the audio/visual industry.
